Orientation

Under: School
Dude, there's something weird going on with the Blog Archive... it says a bunch of months twice, and some months are missing...
Today was freshman orientation. We had to get up fairly early, because my mom also had a job interview around 8:00 AM. The orientation was at 10:00 AM. After my mom was done with her interview, we went to Tim Hortons. Mocha iced caps = liquid bliss... well, for the first five minutes. The flavor drains quickly, leaving you with an icy, vaguely coffee flavored mess. When we entered the high school for orientation, we were greeted by a huge group of juniors and seniors who had volunteered for the "F.L.E.C" program (Focus. Learning. Engage. Connect). Basically, they're there to help freshmen find their way around the school, and they also offer help and guidance. And dang, they were enthusiastic... whenever someone walked through the doors, they'd cheer and scream their heads off. After a few moments of pointlessly standing around, we made our way into the auditorium, where we waited for a few more minutes. Then, they began this meeting with basic information about high school, and stuff about counselors and student officers. After that, all the freshmen were dismissed for a tour around the school. We had to seek out the F.L.E.C leader we were assigned... mine was this girl named Shannon. There were probably two other people in my group, and we paired with some other group for the tour... Camille was in that group, but thankfully she kept her mouth shut the entire time. She didn't even try to say hi to me, like she normally does whenever she sees me. I guess she finally gave up.
The tour was pretty much pointless. They went through everything super fast, and I still have no clue where anything is. Thankfully, we can come in any time from now until school starts to look around the school on our own. Jo gets to meet her teacher tomorrow, so we're probably going to go on another tour then.
Other than that, we received a bunch of papers and stuff. A lot of it was crap we really didn't need (lunch information, dress code, etc.) but there were some important things in there. We got our ID cards (my picture is hideous as always), our locker numbers and combinations, (mine isn't going to be easy to remember like some of my previous ones... for example, 12-25-6, [I thought that was easy to remember for some reason... Christmas 2006?] 48-2-24, [48 divided by 2 is 24] and 22-30-42 [it seemed like some kind of pattern] but I'll manage) and our agendas (I've already added my own personal touches to it). We also got our schedule. Mine is as follows:
A Day
1 - Earth Science
2 - Algebra 1
3 - Advanced Placement History 1
4 - English 1 Honors
B Day
1 - Earth Science
2 - Advisement (I think this is like homebase...)
3 - Spanish 2
4- Studio in Art
C Day
1 - Physical Education
2 - Algebra 1
3 - Advanced Placement History 1
4 - English 1 Honors
D Day
Exactly the same as B Day.
Yup, we only have four periods. Four super long periods... I don't know when I have lunch. ಠ_ಠ C Days and A Days are going to be flippin' fun. >_>
I wonder what my teachers are going to be like...? I never got a chance to meet any of them. Well, I sort of met my English teacher. She seems boring. I think I saw my Spanish teacher in the hall, too. He's a dude, and male teachers are usually more fun than female ones... there have been some exceptions, like Mr. Tyler, my third grade teacher. He was evil. Mrs. Rowcliffe, my English teacher last year, was one of the coolest teachers I've had. Regardless, I hope this Spanish teacher is fun, because I hate Spanish. If he's an interesting teacher, I might become more interested in the subject, like what happened last year with social studies... Speaking of which, AP history is probably going to be torture. Well, unless the teacher is anything like Mr. Wiest... Oh well, I'll struggle through it anyway. It'll look really nice on my records, and it's much more bearable than advanced science or math. Honors English is going to be a drag, too. School hasn't even started yet, and It already bores me. I need to work on that book report... I started it today, and I'm going to try to get a huge chunk done tomorrow. It really isn't a lot of work... the book is just freaking boring and it's torture to read it. I've already had a month's worth of experience in Algebra 1 when I was still in advanced math in eighth grade... it probably won't be that bad, especially since I'm not in an advanced class. On the other hand, if I get stuck in a class like last year, then it'll be even worse. Those kids were freaking insane... and the teacher never did a thing about them. I still hate math, though, so it still won't be fun. Earth science is gonna be pretty bad, too. C'mon, I have it three out of four days... I've never been fond of earth science, anyway. I prefer biology. But it's better than physics, I guess... I hope we get to do some fun projects in art, unlike last year... we had to draw a hallway, draw some pipes, and then freaking trace pictures in a magazine. Woo, tracing. That's totally something that should be encouraged. I want to leave an especially good impression in art, since I'll probably seek an art related career. I'll also have to do good in English, since I'm also intent on becoming an author. I'm sure it won't be difficult, as long as I buckle down and don't let myself get distracted. It'd also be great if I got out of my dumb habit of holding everything off till the last minute...
