As if the Cody Simpson deal wasn't enough, on Wednesday my team set off for a field trip at some huge park. Now, I would normally be overjoyed about a field trip, but this was different. We had to go orienteering... which meant we'd have to run around with a crappy map in search of scattered objects for several hours. Joy.
No one had contacted me about who my partner and chaperon were, and what bus I'd be taking to the park. When it came time for the field trip, some lady told me which bus I'd be on, which happened to be Michelle's bus as well. Of course we sat together, but we didn't talk much. I practically fell asleep on the way there.
When we arrived at the park, some old dude who worked there and several teachers lectured us on what was expected. I found out who my partner was at last; a girl named Allison. Allison and I weren't friends, but I've worked with her in the past, and she wasn't a bad person. At least I didn't get paired with Melissa or one of the other popular freaks... that would've made the field trip twice as bad as it already was. I never found out who my chaperon was, though I think it was Mr. Hunt, that assistant tech teacher who treats me like I'm special ed.
We divided into two teams; the Blue Team, and the Reddish-Pinkish-Orangeish-Purpleish Team, the Red Team for short. Allison and I were on the latter. First the Red Team would participate in a game called 'Random-O', where we'd quest around the park in search of posts marked with numbers and letters. We were handed a sheet the color of our team with numbers on it, where we'd record each letter we found next to the corresponding number on the posts. We were then given maps, and then we were off. Then, using the letters we gathered, we'd have to make as many words as possible.
Allison and I ran into some difficulties during the course of Random-O; there were posts with boxes on them that also had letters and numbers which would apparently to be used in a later game. We recorded whatever we found on the boxes, thinking they were just like the posts we were supposed to find. Maybe it would've helped if we actually used the map, but I digress. We eventually managed to make 55 words out of the letters we found (including the ones on the boxes, which were apparently still counted).
Next was a game called 'Word-O'. In this game, we were given a yellow slip with five numbers and boxes on it. Again, we'd have to search for the posts that showed which letter corresponded with which number. We did pretty decent on this one; we found every letter aside from number eight. Stupid eight.
After Word-O, Allison and I became lost... we went with the wrong chaperon (as we were still uncertain about who ours was) and we ended up getting some apple cider or something which apparently wasn't intended for us... whoops! After hearing Mr. Wiest yell at some kids to not touch a grill because he 'didn't want his hot dogs to taste of burning flesh', we finally came to the conclusion that we were with the wrong chaperons... we rushed off in search of the correct ones afterward. We found them quickly, but missed out on the lecture for the next game. I'm not even sure what it was called, but something tells me it ended with '-O'. So, Allison and I wandered about hopelessly for the course of that game. We only scored one point, which was because someone told us what to put down. Way to go...
After Whatever-the-heck-O, we were finally done with the games. Now it was time for lunch, at last. We were brought into this shelter, where we could sit with whoever we'd like. I naturally sat myself with Megan and Michelle and the rest of the gang. I had an orange soda, an apple, and a five day old Tim Hortons sandwich... it tasted okay, so I guess it was edible. There was this huge bee on the window where I was sitting... I was tempted to take my lunch bag and smash it, but something told me that wasn't the best idea. Thankfully, the bee never bothered me... it just crawled up the window, flew down to the bottom, and climbed back up again. Apparently, bees find that to be amusing...
When we finished eating, I sat through a rather... interesting discussion between Michelle and some of her friends. Then, we finally packed up and left. I fell asleep on the bus ride back, too :P
