Wargle and Vuljina
September 18, 2010
As we all know, Black and White came out today in Japan. We've all seen and commented on the 156 new critters, so there's not much for me to say on that note. However, there's something quite bothersome (to me, anyway) regarding two avian Pokemon: Wargle and Vuljina.
When Wargle was leaked way back when, I thought of it as an extraordinary Pokemon; come on, it's a red, white and blue eagle for Arceus's sake! It was also a dead giveaway that the Isshu region was based off of some part of America. And then came along Swana, a feminine looking swan that I found very ugly. After watching several videos in which there were Wargle, I noticed that all of them were male, which isn't too strange. I also saw that all of the Swana were female. Then I had a bitter feeling, much like that time when I predicted Riolu being male only in PMD: What if Wargle and Swana were male and female counterparts?
As we already know, Pokexperto leaked all the sprites a couple of days ago. I noticed that in the list of sprites on Pokebeach, Wargle's family and Swana's family were far apart from each other in the Pokedex, so it'd be very unlikely that they're counterparts. After a moment of relief, I noticed a new bird family next to Wargle's--- two Dark/Flying vultures. The final form, Vuljina (er... not gonna go there with the name...) looked as if it was wearing a bow on its head, and a skirt, and its pre-evolved form whose name I can't remember bore an egg shell that had a heart mark on it. I ignored that for now, though I did suspect that they were counterparts of each other. Later on, when I was browsing Bulbagarden, someone announced that Wargle was indeed male only and Vuljina was female only.
I am quite disappointed. I mean, it's a bald eagle, since when are all bald eagles male? And since when are all vultures female? It would've made much more sense if Roselia or Bellossum, two Pokemon with obvious female traits were female only, or Machamp, a Pokemon with bulging muscles, was male only, but no, they randomly decide to make a male eagle and a female vulture.
